Pregnancy Scares at Babylon

Another great set from Pregnancy Scares opening for Obits last Wednesday at Babylon.  The band features Davey Quesnelle, Dave Forcier, Craig Peru and Emmanuel Sayer of many other ottawa bands/institutions. Craig is a really engaging frontman and the rest of the band provides a great mix of sonic assault mixed with some pretty unique melodic breakdowns. Also a really fun band.

Crusades LP Release

Crusades played a great set Wednesday night at Babylon, supporting Brooklyn , NY’s Obits.  It was also the release of their new album, The Sun is Down and the Night is Riding in.  I think I’ve mentioned before some of the bands that this punkrock supergroup pulls from, but the best reference points are the Creeps and Last Communion since half the band comes from each and actually represents a pretty good halfway point between the two.  Their album is a great slab of melodic punk with a tinge of gothic influence both sonically and lyrically. All four members take turns on vocals which adds a nice variety but still maintains a pretty consistent sound which can be a risk with too many cooks in the kitchen.
